All the Missing Girls

They took her sister. She'll take revenge.

PLOT

Once you enter their world, there is no escape…In this gripping and undeniably chilling thriller from Emmy-award winning journalist Linda Hurtado Bond.

As a crime reporter for a Tampa TV news station, Mari Alvarez knows when an investigation enters dangerous territory. But with her estranged sister missing and almost no information to go on, Mari can’t trust anyone but herself to find the truth. Now she has just 48 hours to sneak into Cuba undetected, track down her sister…and pray to her orisha that she’s not too late.

This is nothing like reporting in her neighborhood, though–a place she knows like the back of her hand. In Havana she has no contacts and only an ice-cold trail of cryptic clues. When Detective Tony Garcia offers to help, Mari puts aside her instincts and tries to let someone in. But soon they’re caught in a maze of lies, deception, and an undercurrent of the island’s own witchcraft, a sinister Brujería.

Every lead draws Mari further into this world of shadows, especially when her sister isn’t the only young woman who’s gone missing. Each step pushes Mari and Tony toward a revelation they never saw coming. And as they close in on the horrifying truth, one thing becomes clear…no one will let them leave Cuba alive.

mystery/thriller, great twists and turns, suspenseful moments, with a little romance
Wow, I didn’t know that this was book 2 of the Mari Alvarez series, and now I need to read book one. This book will take you on a ride through Cuba with Mari, Tony and Orlando. They’re all there looking for Mari's sister Lizzy who sent a text to her sister using their own code, saying that she needed help and couldn’t leave on her own. This book has everything that I love in mystery books; it’s a thriller, with twists and turns throughout the plot, it has perfect amount of suspenseful moments, look through the eyes of what people in Cuba dealt/deal with (of course not everything in the book is real), I loved that even though this was a mystery/thriller you will find a small amount of romance in the book and it doesn’t take away from the plot at all but for me it added another layer of the story. I found that the author’s writing was easy to read and flowed, I liked that pace was fast, and there was something new on every page. I found the characters to be well developed, and easy to connect with or to relate with. I liked that with Mari, you will find a smart, determined, resourceful female character, she is also loyal to her family and friends. She will do anything it takes to make sure that her sister is safe, even though she is still mad/hurt with the truth that she found out in the first book. You will see that Mari will do whatever it takes to bring her sister home safe. While she is out looking for signs of her sister, she finds out there are other missing girls, all around the same age. The journalist in her, can’t help but find the missing pieces to where her sister is and find the other missing girls while is at it. I liked that she is smart, but at the same time you have the need to find the truth as well, so you will see a side of her that will push at topics that are not talked about in Cuban culture. I will be reading the first book now, and I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen in book three after the ending in this book. This author is already on my top list for mystery/thriller books. I want to thank NetGalley and Entangled Pub for the opportunity to review this book.

Equal parts terrifying and addicting!
Book Review: All The Missing Girls by Linda Hurtado Bond I went into this book with no prior experience with Linda Hurtado Bond’s work and didn’t realize that All The Missing Girls is the second book in a series. Thankfully, this book reads well as a standalone, although the twisted ending leaves you eager to see what happens next. I normally don’t read thrillers because heart-racing stories about serial killers and nail-biting suspense don’t typically keep me engaged. However, this book was much more than that. I felt as if I was transported to Cuba, experiencing the nightlife, culture, and the creepy government surveillance in a communist country. From the start, I was on a wild ride with the main female character, Mari Alvarez, as she sneaks into Cuba on a search and rescue mission for her sister, Izzy. Mari’s goal is also to apprehend the man who killed her mother. This mission is not only time-sensitive, but if anything goes wrong, it could jeopardize the lives of Izzy, Mari, and everyone accompanying her. What I didn’t expect was the terrifying mystery surrounding Oshunvilla, a tourist attraction that I hope exists only in Ms. Hurtado Bond’s brilliant imagination. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and racing through the pages to see what would happen next. Though I’m not yet a full-fledged thriller enthusiast, I highly recommend you read All The Missing Girls. The ending is just the beginning of another wild ride.

Edgy Thriller You Won't Want to Put Down
If you are in the mood for an on-the-edge-of-your-seat, up-all-night thriller, All the Missing Girls is the book for you! Television reporter Mari Alvarez sneaks into Cuba with her videographer and her friend, a Cuban-American police detective. Mari's mission: Rescue her sister and bring the man who abducted her to justice. Mari soon discovers that her sister isn't the only missing girl, and the truth about what's happening to them is darker than she could have imagined. The book takes readers to parts of Cuba that tourists don't see and introduces the dark side of Santeria's religious practices. It is the sequel to All the Broken Girls, which I highly recommend as well, but this book is easy to follow even if you haven't read the first. Share your review!
